Assistive Technology refers to any item or equipment to improve the access and capabilities of individuals with disabilities.
Campus Computing Labs
Accessibility software is available in six campus computing labs. This software includes: JAWS, MAGic and Kurzweil 3000. Headphones are not provided. In addition, a Braille Embosser is available for student use in the Hillman Library computing lab.
Pitt IT Virtual Lab enables individuals to remotely access lab software and resources. The convenience of the Virtual Lab is that the software can be accessed from any location, using almost any computer or mobile device, at any time of day.

Free Text-to- Speech Software
Students who utilize print materials in an alternative formats should consider downloading free text-to-speech software, including the following:
- NVDA- Open Source Screen Reader
- NaturalReader- Text to Speech Software
- Central Access Reader - Text to Speech program
