Institutional Equity
- Different Like You!

Workforce diversity in the 21st century focuses less on what group a person is identified with and more on the unique diversity of each person as an individual. This workshop is an overview intended to help participants increase their awareness of diversity issues and to gain a better understanding of acceptance and appreciation of the differences between us. Participants will learn to identify and examine one’s own stereotypes and prejudices and how these may guide behaviors and responses. Learn how recognizing barriers to accepting diversity can help to remove them and create an environment for academic and workplace success. Participants will identify at least one way to promote respect and dignity for others.
- Fostering a Diverse and Inclusive Environment: The WHY and HOW

This training is part of the DICP Program.
When we talk about Diversity and inclusion, diversity is the more familiar topic. The discussion must go beyond seeking and building a diverse workforce to include how we make those whom we work with feel both valued and included. Workshop participants will discuss the differences between diversity, inclusion, and exclusion. They will also leave this workshop with a heightened awareness of the importance of inclusion to a successful workplace and how to promote inclusion in their workplace.
- Fostering Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace: A Supervisor's Role

This workshop is available via video conference to Pitt’s branch campuses. Specific room details sent via email prior to workshop date.
Who Should Attend: Individuals who directly manage or supervise the work of other staff members.
The workshop is designed to help supervisors gain insight and learn the foundational concepts of diversity and how to foster an environment that makes employees feel valued and included. Participants will define and discuss terms such as diversity, micro-aggression, implicit bias, and other relevant terms and through dialogue, videos, and exercises, will examine the ways they impact the workplace. Participants will discuss the benefits of diversity and inclusion in the workplace and review the additional resources and training opportunities available at the University.
- Is That Really Harassment?

This workshop explores the negative consequences of harassment covering such topics as age, race, sexual orientation, political affiliation, pregnancy, ethnicity, sexual harassment, and much more. Participants will learn the definition of harassing behavior and the various types of harassment in the workplace through the use of personalized stories, legal and policy definitions, group activities, and discussion. Participants will also learn specific University policies and what to do if they are harassed.

- Baby Boomers to Millennials: Respect and Productivity in the Workplace

For the first time, we have as many as five different generations working together in a single workplace. This workshop presents methods for bridging the gap between generations and shows participants how to avoid conflict and increase productivity in their generationally diverse workplaces. Workshop participants will learn about generational differences, generational similarities, how generational traits impact the workplace, and how good communication skills can develop a more respectful workplace.
- Workplace Bullying

The workplace is a common site of interpersonal conflict. Some conflict is a natural outgrowth of interpersonal differences; other conflict is a result of repeated behavior meant to intimidate, degrade, or offend others. Workplace bullying creates feelings of defenselessness and robs individuals of their right to respect and dignity at work. This workshop will define bullying behavior, its causes and effects, and resources available to those who have experiences it.

Sexual Misconduct Prevention
- Bystander Education Training

This interactive program offers participants the opportunity to understand what it means to be an active bystander when they observe others in distressing or potentially harmful situations. Participants will begin to identify strategies and utilize communication skills necessary for intervention in situations they are concerned could be harmful to another person. Information about consent and student resources are also included.

- Healthy Relationships

This workshop includes activities and discussions that will help participants identify the characteristics of healthy and unhealthy relationships. Using inclusive scenarios and relevant examples, peer leaders will walk participants through a multitude of important topics surrounding relationship violence, stalking, possessive behaviors, and more. Information will also be provided for supporting peers who have been affected by dating violence or abuse.

- Talk Dirty to Me

This program offers a deep dive into consent — what consent is, why consent is important, and when it can and cannot be given. This program will include discussions on what makes for an uncomfortable sexual experience, as well as the elements needed for a good, mutually enjoyable sexual encounter. This workshop is highly interactive and gives participants a chance to build confidence in practicing consent through engaging activities.

- Survivor Support

This workshop provides participants with tools and a basic framework they can use to support survivors of sexual assault in their lives. This workshop covers how to support a survivor in a few simple steps and discusses resources available to survivors of sexual violence on campus as well as in the Greater Pittsburgh area.

Civil Rights & Title IX
- General Title IX Overview (Faculty, Staff, Students)

This training is designed to promote a common and consistent understanding and application of the University of Pittsburgh policies, standards, and processes with regard to Title IX. The training facilitator will address required timeliness all potential responders must adhere to upon becoming aware of sexual violence, sexual harassment, relationship violence, stalking and discrimination. The 60-minute presentation will also discuss how to identify harassment and respond to disclosures. This workshop can be scheduled for 30 minutes or 60 minutes.
- Preventing and Responding to Sexual Misconduct (Faculty, Staff, Students)

In addition, participants will discuss the results of the AAU climate survey. This workshop will include discussions around sexual harassment and how to support survivors of sexual misconduct. Finally, participants will learn about resources available to all community members. This workshop is highly interactive and uses scenarios and videos. This workshop is typically 90 minutes.

This session will provide participants with the opportunity to practice inclusive language, discuss societal barriers to inclusion and gain tools that can be used in their own department. Facilitators will provide basic information and terminology during the first part of the session. Next, participants will discuss a relevant scenario. The session will end with an overview and discussion of resources and tools that can be used to create more inclusive spaces. This workshop is 60 minutes.

It is the responsibility of everyone in the University community to maintain a campus environment that is free from discrimination and harassment. This online training program is available to all University of Pittsburgh faculty and staff to help you identify, avoid, and report wrongful behaviors. The program outlines basic legal considerations relating to employment discrimination and the University’s policies and procedures that prohibit discrimination and harassment. - Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse: Mandated and Permissive Reporting in Pennsylvania

In response to Pennsylvania's new Act 31—which requires all professionals in the state who regularly come in contact with children to receive training in the recognition and reporting of child abuse—the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work is offering a comprehensive online training program. Through its Pennsylvania Child Welfare Resource Center and its Continuing Education program, the school has developed an accessible, three-hour training program titled "Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse: Mandated and Permissive Reporting in Pennsylvania."
