Campus Sexual Assault Awareness Month

This September, Prevention at Pitt will lead efforts for our first annual Campus Sexual Assault Awareness Month.  Campus Sexual Assault Awareness Month will be a time for the Pitt community to come together to support survivors, increase knowledge and awareness, and identify strategies to eliminate sexual violence from our campus.  Sexual misconduct impacts every community and it can happen at any time.  However, we know that college students are most at risk of experiencing sexual violence during their first six weeks of school.  To combat violence on our campus, Prevention at Pitt will work to engage in discussions about consent, respect, agency, and healthy relationships, and survivor support throughout the month of September.

By participating in Campus Sexual Assault Awareness Month activities, you can help contribute to a consent-centered campus environment.

Campus Sexual Assault Awareness Month T-Shirts

Prevention at Pitt has ordered t-shirts for the month- the t-shirts invite community members to create a culture of consent on campus.  If you would like to wear a T-shirt during the month of September, please fill out the form below.

PAAR Wellness Workshop Series with Pittsburgh Action Against Rape

Friday, September 13th | 1pm-2pm
31st Floor of the Cathedral of Learning (Prevention at Pitt)

Self-care and healing can take many forms and involve a number of different skills, techniques, routines, and supports. Pittsburgh Action Against Rape and Prevention at Pitt are starting a wellness series to give survivors and their allies as safe space to learn more about how trauma impacts the body and brain, language for discussing our complex emotions, to take space to learn and practice soothing skills and coping strategies, and most importantly: build community with fellow peers who are also seeking community and support.

Our first group will focus on neurobiology of trauma and how memories are made/how trauma impacts the memory. Participants will have the opportunity to identify and define each part of the brain and do interactive exercises to explore the function of each part. Don’t fret! This will be a VERY entry level exploration of these topics and we welcome everyone who is interested.
