Drew Armstrong has been named OEDI’s civil rights and advocacy response manager. Their appointment was announced Jan. 6 by Clyde Wilson Pickett, chief diversity officer and vice chancellor for equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Armstrong (SHRS ’19) had been serving as one of OEDI’s outreach and response specialists and as interim manager. A member of the OEDI team since February 2023 they earned their bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation science at Pitt in 2019. They are currently pursuing a master’s degree in social work.
“I’m excited for this new role, and to continue to grow and work with community members to ensure they are supported and to reduce harmful incidents in the campus community,” Armstrong said.
Prior to joining OEDI, Armstrong worked at The Friendship Circle of Pittsburgh as inclusion and membership manager, where they helped train staff members on inclusion and cultural humility, coordinated the onboarding process for new members, and identified and enhanced diversity and inclusion practices.
“As the University enters the new year, we are re-affirming our commitment to growing Pitt’s reputation as an inclusive place for everyone to work, study, and do world-leading research,” Pickett said. “Drew has been a valued member of our team since February 2023 and we are pleased to make their interim role permanent.”
