NDEAM 2024 encourages Americans to work towards ‘Access to Good Jobs for All’

University marks National Disability Employment Month with full slate of programming

The University of Pittsburgh is offering a number of activities designed to celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month and the contribution of employees, including those with unseen disabilities.

The United States first set aside a week to recognize the contributions of people with physical disabilities in 1945. In 1988, the U.S. Congress created National Disability Employment Awareness Month to acknowledge the importance of increasing the number of people with disabilities in the workforce.

Observed each October, NDEAM pays tribute to the value and talent workers with disabilities add to America’s workplaces and economy. This year’s official theme is “Access to Good Jobs for All.”

Leigh Culley, director of Disability Resources & Services within Pitt’s Office for Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion, says the University is holding a series of events to highlight resources available to employees with disabilities, as well as strategies for overcoming everyday challenges.
